fbx exporter from the non-pro sketchup version to unity? Where or why not?
Is there an fbx exporter from the non-pro sketchup version to unity? Where or why not?

Try MeshLab for file format conversion to 3ds, which imports to Unity. Or use one of the open source fbx converters.
Alternatively, if you are unemployed or a student, you can get access to all Autodesk 2011 products legit for free. (Caveat: you are not supposed to make commercial products with them) ... But you should be able to create fbx natively though!

That's something Google has to do, not Unity. I asked Google people about it, they said that they have to charge money for something, so that is the reason why exporters come with pro version only.
