Character Equip Animation

So I have this character with 2 equip slots. One on his right hand and another on his back were he puts the weapon back.

As per normal practice, these slots are just empty/dummy gameObjects whose transforms are children of the backbone (for back slot) and the right palm (for hand slot) of the character.

What's the best way to do a holster or equip animation that transfers the weapon between these 2 slots? The best way I can think of is some sort of "half-way-done" callback for animations where I can make the switch, but I don't think such is supported in Unity (is it?).

Anyway, anyone knows a way to solve this issue? :)

Or you could split your animation in half. Still not a great solution. I've never worked with Unity animation, but you'd think there would be a way to trigger events at certain times.
