Question by AnacronPhoenix · Feb 13, 2013 at 12:22 PM · intel

Is MicroSotf's SurFace Pro capable to run Unity?

It has a 3nd gen i5 Possessor, 4bg ram and an Intel HD 4000 graphic card... I am wondering if it can run unity smoothly, if it's capable for Dx11 development (i know that the graphic card supports dx11 but well can produce a game?) and final is 4gb enough?

Surface pro is not ARM Based. It runs 64 Bit Windows 8 OS(supports desktop applications) and not Windows RT which is availiable on the normal surface tablet. It is fully desktop apps capable. It does have i5 processor(ivy bridge) but i am not sure of clock speed. 4 GB of ram and intel hd 4000 should be perfectly fine for running Unity3d.

Agreed - A surface pro tablet should have no trouble running Unity3D - It's worth noting that it'll have a poor battery life though. That's the main reason I'd go with a laptop over a tablet hybrid.

Windows RT is ARM based!!! I don't care for ARM devices and software as such (win RT, android, ios)... I am talking about the computer power... Windows RT cannot run Unity cause it's an x32_64 program not ARM based...

Going by just the tech specs it should theoretically run OK, but I can't see the point when you can get a more powerful laptop that would be easier to work on for less money.

it is capable but right now if you dont have a mouse it will not work... unity 4.2 dont support the pen or touch inside the editor.

Actually I'm trying unity on surface pro right now and it seems to be really slow. I don't see that much CPU usage, however unity lacks responsiveness to touch and pen is very-very slow. Unity guys might need to take a look why is it that slow in surface pro platform.
