Is it possible to use a mecanim animation with the legacy Animation component?

I realize it's not ideal to do this, however I'm using a package that automagically takes advantage of animations assigned using the legacy controller (ORK RPG, if it matters), and would love to be able to easily assign some of the prebuilt mecanim animations (run, walk, etc) to a character in this way.

Any idea if this is possible, and if so, how I do it properly?

I can get mecanim animations to play just fine on my own imported character. For now, I created a character in MakeHuman, imported it, and tweaked the IdleRunJump controller from one of the example projects... that works just fine. But is there any way I can import mecanim animations in a legacy format and apply them to my character?
