How do you script movement and events(certain things happening when a button is pressed or an object is collided with)

How do you script movement and events in java? Im relatively new to unity and need assistance with scripting, and I'd like to script a sequence where a character collides with a collider and triggers a monster(i have models). how would i do that? and how would i be able to script similar sequences
