Why is Unity sluggish in Windows?
This is specific to running unity in windows only. In Mac is it ok.
Project size is about 4 to 5 GB. So here goes...
When unity comes to focus it does some crazy computation. This takes about 1 minute or more. Clicking the play button takes about few seconds for it to start the game. MonoDevelop hangs when you find for something in the workspace.
Is there any way to resolve this and make it fun to use unity in windows too?

All our 3d folk also have the same problem because of 2-4 plus gig projects, we have found no solution. What helps a little is to disable autoRefresh and refresh only when needed. This is unacceptable as a programmer, so we have just removed all 3d/2d assets from our project and load content through bundles

What is the test environment you're using for windows? If you're using the windows version through some Virtualbox on a MAC, it's possible the host machine is offering the VM limited resources.
Nah, I run windows as main os and I get sluggishness too. It takes ages for unity to update/import even one texture. Well not ages, but way too long. The time stretches a lot when it has to import like 10 objects or more at the same time.
You know that when maya can launch, load a scene and render it faster than it takes for unity to just import the textures, then something is wrong. And my maya scene has almost 100 textures, while unity needs to wait to load 10 of them :S
I am curious if you are running any Anti Virus. I have seen in the past that certain anti virus programs can cause unity to run slower as it checks every read and write to file that unity carries out. I have also seen other programs cause issues as a media program that comes on HP machines that causes unity to lock up as well for a few seconds at a time.
