Selling Games made with Free Assets
Can I sell a game made ONLY using FREE ASSETS from the Unity asset store?
Please let me know. Thanks,
explain, would you put something on the asset store (paid or free, it doesn't matter) without any agreement and you don't want people to use it? why put it there then?
your talking about theft... how can you s$$anonymous$$l it if it is there and free ???
if they say that you cannot use it and you still use it that is different... but if there is no agreement of any kind feel free to use them. they are there to use !
you could give them credits tho even they don't ask for it...

Here is the EULA for the asset store:
http://unity3d.com/unity/asset-store/docs/customer-eula
You would have maybe to go through each and every assets you use to check if the author has provided conditions. You should be able to use them and sell your game but they might ask you some conditions like mentioning their name somewhere or not modifying the asset.
ya I read through the entire EULA and from my understanding, if no license is listed or specified, then it follows Unity's default for their assets, which is free to use for anyone (even commercial). correct me if I'm wrong?
Should be right. One thing you should watch is if assets that are distributed for free ( especially models ) are made with educational or free versions of 3D Tools, which does not allow them to be used commercially. If the distributor of the asset does not mention whether he used non-commercial tools or not, I am not sure who ends up being responsible...
I did not read the link you posted but consider that this thread is 4 years old. It is possible things have changed, particularly since Unity went from garage development to multi-billion company in the meanwhile.

Look at the agreements for the assets you're using, see if the agreement says that you can use those assets for commercial products.
Then you cannot publicly use them, or should look harder.
what about assets purchased from the Unity Asset store? Can I use them and still sell my game? It just sucks that I've built my game using free assets from the Unity store (thinking that I would be okay) and now I find out I'm not allowed. Sigh. So much for rapidly producing games. Now I have to spend months making assets.
not true my friend. have you looked at anything in the Unity Asset Store? The majority of assets have absolutely no information about it's copyright use. Just says FREE or has a price.

Hello According to unity support in the link Below : https://support.unity3d.com/hc/en-us/articles/205623589-Can-I-use-assets-from-the-Asset-Store-in-my-commercial-game-
Yes You can purchase assets from the Asset Store and use them personally and commercially in your game. You can also use free assets in your game for commercial use. You cannot resell the asset, or include it in an asset type product.

well in contract law, a contract is only valid if it has full disclosure. So by the creaters not disclosing any information about it, you cant be in breach of T&C or a contract. However this begs a moral question. Do you bite the hand that feeds? the entertainment comunity tends to look badly on idea or creative theft, so if your wanting to be a serious designer, perhaps its not the best idea. But the choice is yours
thanks for the info. I do not want to bite any hand that feeds any anyone. that's why I've decided to contact each and every developer for each and every asset I plan to use. I am finding it extremely difficult to track these people down though. $$anonymous$$ost of them leave no contact info and I have to end up Googling their e-mail address, if they even exist as a person. So far, the 1 person who has responded said "go for it!" so hopefully the other developers get back to me.
if someone put something in the asset store, it is so that others can use it. if it is free and there is no agreement i don't really think that they care if you use it in your game and sell. else they would have an agreement.
if i would put something on the store and i would not want them to use it in their game.... i would not even put it in the store....
isn't that kinda logic?
so for me it is not creative theft AT ALL
The question was already answered...if there is no license specified, then the default asset store license applies. (And the asset store license is an extension of the Unity license.)
You can be in violation of copyright law if there is no contract/license. however in this case, unity asset is governed by its EULA and the agreement users agree to when they upload assets and when users download/use them. what does that say and what rights the asset owners are giving and whether they are allowed to restrict the use or modify the license.
