Question by NickP_2 · Dec 04, 2013 at 06:17 PM · androidiosmobile

Export IOS with windows (mobile)

For a school project I have to make a mobile application. I started with the idea for an android app because our teacher told us it costs $99 to launch an iPhone app...

He also said that you don't need a smartphone because we may use emulators, but today he told me that the android emulator doesn't work for unity games(ish), only for programs created in the Android SDK.

The problem is that I don't own a smartphone, I do own an iPod touch 4g.

I'd like to ask if it's possible to launch a IOS game from unity on a windows platform, and put the game on my iPod touch without the $99 fee? (maybe with a jailbreak?)

Or is it just a myth that I can't launch android apps on an emulator?

Thanks!

I haven't had any luck launching APKs on an Android emulator, but maybe someone else knows how.

To build for iOS, you need a Mac. From the Unity 4.3 Release Notes: "Ability to build iOS target in Windows! It's still necessary to compile resulting Xcode project on a Mac." If you can borrow a Mac, you can put it on your iPod. The $99 is to put it on the Apple App Store.

Here are some instructions for running $$anonymous$$acOS in Windows using VirtualBox:

Haha, I was on the same site. I'm sure i can pull this one off. Now I just not sure if I can launch the app on my iPod for free (But that's just one google away from knowing). Being broke makes people creative...

Unity outputs an XCode project when building for iOS, so you will need a Mac to build it.

I'm not sure about Android emulator support, but you could buy a cheap tablet (< $100, possibly even < $50) and run it that way
