Scripts stop working in Maximize On View and testing on Android

I have several scripts that instantiate objects and another that deals with guiLabel for scoring that work fine when I am testing them in the Scene and Game views. However, when I click Maximize on View and run it, my instantiate scripts do not run. Also, when I ported the .apk to android and ran it on my phone, the instantiate scripts and the score script did not run. I tried starting the game in Maximize on Play and then taking off the option after the game started running, and the insantiates still did not happen. I am testing on 9:16 ratio and using a physical Nexus 5.
