Child object slows my character speed

Hello Unity club members ;)

In my game, the character object has a character controller. In fact, it is the FPS Character controller found in the basic Unity Packages. In order to take an object in his hand, the taken object is parented to an empty gameObject "HandPosition" itself parented in the character controller.

The object is hold in front of the character and I want it to be able to push other object on its way. So the taken object got a rigidbody (kinematics = true) and a box collider (trigger = false).

The problem is that my character move a lot SLOWER now that I got that object as a child.

I tried to light the mass or other parameters but this is still slow.

I just want an object to follow my character and push other objects on its way but without changing the way my character moves.

Any ideas where that would come from ?

Character controllers don't work properly with child objects. Esp. when the child is touching them. Make sure that your child box never overlaps the built-in characterController capsule.

If you have a moving rigidbody, with child colliders such as your box, things are fine. The game "adds up" all parent and child colliders, and it does a decent job rolling and bouncing as if it were one big, funny-shaped collider. (I think) the weight of each child matters, so you can make a bottom-heavy object.

Character controllers are only ever the capsule, as far as movement goes. Any child colliders are just along for the ride.
