Object (LineRenderer) not shown when root out of screen

Pretty much what it says in the title. I have an object at world (0,0,0) with a line renderer component, and a camera that moves around. The line renderer polys are offset above the base at around 1 in y-axis.

When the in-game camera is facing so it can in theory see the polygons, and the editor camera is facing away from the polygons, nothing is rendered.

When I move the editor camera to face the root at 0,0,0, suddenly the polys become visible.

So it seems when no cameras (including the editor camera) can see the root, nothing is rendered. Is this a bug?
