Question by MilkX5 · Dec 05, 2012 at 02:40 AM · projectgame design

Should I stop my current game project and start on my original game?

I'm working on a fighter game with characters from kirby and I'm very tempted to stall it and start on my original game idea instead because I have to re-organize the sprite sheets for each kirby. Should I stop and do the original or keep on my fighter?

This is an opinion/discussion question which should be posted on the forums, rather than a specific development question that has an objective answer.

If you are close to being done with the fighter, I say just finish it up. If you you still have a lot to do, and just don't seem to be feeling the game right now(which sounds like the case) and are more interested in your original game idea, then start the original game.

If you are always coming up with different ideas and start a new project, you will never finish any of them. Keep that in mind and maybe start taking on smaller projects that you can finish. That's what I did anyway. But with that said a lot of the work you do will end up being thrown away or deleted at some point in any project.

I say go for it if you think it will help.

Keep in mind that if you want to actually go anywhere with a game you have to avoid both copyright and trademark infringement. If you are using characters from another game which have not been released to the public domain you are almost certainly in breach of the game makers trademarks.
