Static objects increasing load time in Unity 5?
I haven't been able to replicate this in Unity 4.6, but in Unity 5 if I mark all of my objects static the load time of my scene dramatically increases (from about 10 seconds to 60 seconds on a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014).
Does anyone know why this might happen? I read somewhere that static batching is handled a bit differently in Unity 5. Is there anything I can do to reduce this load time? Are there certain objects that I should avoid making static?
Thanks, Jared

Well, go into the Window option, and select lighting. If continuous baking is on, that causes some lighting and graphical baking with Unity 5 which is there to improve shadows and such. It's not just you with this problem... So yeah nothing in particular wrong with your game. Also, in the editor, when you check an object as static, look in the bottom right corner of the Unity window, and it'll probably show some bar saying something about baking, and usually some number as a fraction out of 9, 10, or 11.
Thank you for the response! It is great to hear that I'm not alone.
I tried disabling everything in the Scene tab of the lighting window; I also turned off lightmap static for all of my mesh renderers in the Object tab. This didn't seem to help.
Is there some specific setting you are referring to when you say "continuous baking"? I don't really know how any of the new lighting stuff is set up; I don't want to use any of it for this particular project.
I couldn't see anything in the bottom about baking. Would it be possible for you to show me this in a screen shot?
Sorry, not at the computer. Just go to the Windows tab at the ver very top, and open up Lighting. Hopefully you will see what I mean there.

Thanks for getting back to me. If you have a chance to look at the screen shots I've attached of my settings to see if I've missed something, I would appreciate it!
