Question by Tondo · Aug 23, 2014 at 04:40 PM · buildbeta

Can a beta build of Unity4.6 work on other machines?

Hello,

I'm currently making a game for a game jam in Unity 4.6 and when I built a webplayer version of the game I noticed that it said in the game that the webplayer build only works on the machine you built the game in.

Is this also true for Standalone builds? I tried looking around the web but I haven't been able to find anything useful.

The Unity 4.6 beta is in open beta, and can be downloaded by anybody. I didn't have to sign a Non-disclosure agreement to download it either, so I doubt I'm breaking any laws here.

Probably because a new web player is not out yet in the normal downloads? for 4.6 i mean.

I did a bit more digging and it seems standalone builds will work on other people's machines, though I haven't yet been able to test it myself.

Standalones yes, because you are providing the engine in it. But in the web player, each machine has a version of the webplayer installed.
