These 3 links are to the last 3 times I answered this same question.

Seriously, you need to learn how to use a search engine. Try it now ... type Unity tutorial into google, it's that easy.

Here is a list of tutorials to get you going :

Fair enough, I understand there are 1000s of tutorials out there, and finding the good ones in your chosen program$$anonymous$$g language can be hard, but my above links should help. If you gave more info for what language you program in and what type of game you want to make. But the video series I linked is a perfect way to get to know how to use the unity interface, the stage, gameObjects and components, etc. And they are only about 5$$anonymous$$s long each. That should definitely get you started and comfortable using unity. Sorry, but this question comes up alot, I wonder how so many people find this 'site without the ability to use a search engine and filter the results to what they are looking for.

As someone arriving here from Google, I don't think this answers the question at all. He asked what the BEST way to learn it is. "Google It" is a terrible answer. For instance, none of the tutorials will help you in choosing a good architecture for your game. Thats the kind of stuff people generally get out of working with seasoned developers or reading THE RIGHT book. I think a more appropriate would be to choose ONE OR TWO of your 1000's of resources and state why IT is the best way to learn Unity. Your answer helps me 0%. Also, you should try answering questions without berating the person asking the question about searching for things. Everyone who is interested in Unity3D can obviously search for things and knows that they should, they obviously have just reached a dead end.

I'm guessing the right answer to this is to read a book or work with someone who already knows it well and has a real project under their belt. But which book?

Unity Answers is for answering specific technical questions. For questions or discussions such as "How to ..." or "What is the best way to ..." are questions for the forums. You also have to take into account how many times this question keeps reappearing, although the answer has been given several times.

There is a most excellent book and accompany video series (that I have linked in the answer) : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Unity-3-x-Game-Development-Essentials/dp/1849691444/ref=pd_sim_b_1

I'm sure google will return that at some stage. So to recap :

  • Unity Answers is a place for questions that can be answered! Avoid asking questions here that are subjective, argumentative, or require extended discussion.

  • Unity Forums is a place for discussions, opinions, showing off your work, getting feedback, and general community chatter.

If you are having problems with code you have written, or the settings in Unity , then this is the sole purpose of Unity Answers.

Finally, this is just a sample of how many times this same question has been asked :

The question is subjective and argumentative. There is no definitive answer. What language, what techniques, what does the OP specifically want to learn about? There is no one single definitive answer. Anyone who wants to learn anything should never just use one single source. And if you follow any of my advice, and even start with unity3Dstudent, then from there you can branch out and start learning from multiple sources.

Unity is a legitimate, professional game engine on which many professional users and studios develop games and applications on. But I think too many users see it more as a Ben 10 Game Creator.

Perhaps simply start by actually reading the documentation and Unity Scripting Reference :

There you will find a wealth of information and script examples.

I am a college instructor who teaches programming, so I can relate to you situation because I see it every day. You'll need to find a way to learn that works for you. This may be a book, a video tutorial or maybe an online course. Everybody learns differently so you may need to try different things until something clicks for you.

If you are interested, I have a brand new, economical Unity 4 course on Udemy called Anyone Can Learn to Make a Game. My course is aimed at complete beginners and features over 30 HD videos and complete source code examples for you to download and try out. You can find the course at https://www.udemy.com/unity-tutorial/

It's a shame you didn't mention that this was a paid course, so all these answers just seem like advertising. You are more than welcome to advertise in the Unity Forums ins$$anonymous$$d of here at Unity Answers : http://forum.unity3d.com/forum.php

Thank for the input, I've updated my posts to reflect your feedback :-)

I still think this is one of the best ways to learn Unity quickly . As an entrepreneur, time is money, so if I can buy a good book or take a good course that can get me up to speed on something quickly, it will be a definite consideration.

I will also make sure to check out the forum. Thanks!
