Ipad bluetooth keyboard as input

Is it possible to get the input of a bluetooth keyboard on an ipad outside of the onscreen keyboard functionality (for example left and right arrows to move a character)?

From googling it seems that only android supports this and ios only works with an ipad controller, which a bluetooth keyboard is not. Any workarounds without jailbreaking (bluetooth -> icade -> input) the ipad or are we stuck with using a controller? Thanks!
