Making a game third person and first person
I am wanting to make a game where you can switch the views from 3rd person to first person. How would I make a third person game and you can switch to first person but still using the third person animations.
In other words how do I make a third person game. how do I get it so you can choose between first person and third person and still have the third person player and animations active but look like battlefield or cod when in first person. And how would I add weapons to a third person game.
Thank you and I know this is a lot but I hope you can bear with me untill I can get the hang of this.
Or have two cameras, one pov the other 3rd person, and enable/disable at will. But you probably have a lot to learn before making your COD/GOW game, start simple with some tutorials!
Thank you for the responce I have made a gun shooting script so I guess that is a start.
While I agree with the other comments here, for other readers it is worth considering more factors. Sometimes you want a smooth transition with one camera between the 3rd and 1st perspective which requires some scripting of the camera movement (and also possible fading of the characters head to avoid the 'clash' of going through the mesh). But then the 2 perspectives most likely need to have 2 different sets of controls, and that is a major consideration.
I can help you with that, Let's be partners and start creating a game with First and Third person Shooter?

I agree with gregzo, two cameras is in my opinion the simplest way. If you want to know stuff about this kind of game, have a look at : this tutorial.
We can't explain directly to you what you must learn or not, there is a lot :)
I'm making the same type of game. I've had to make all my animations on my full bodied third person character, and then in maya, rig the same anamation, deleat the face mesh and all unnessasary parts you won't see in a first person game Here's my workflow: get mixamo plugin for maya Import full bodied mesh use mixamo plugin, add rig, add animation unconstrain layers deleat all unnessary parts of mesh, controls and handles create ground node bind Joint_GRP (Ctrl middle mouse) to Hips so that's it has proper hyarchy Bind_Joint_GRP Ground node Hips Change settings to 30 FPS Center Pivot Save select all joints "select -hi" deleat non deformer history Bake remove unused controls Export
I hope it helps someone, and I really wish I didn't have to have separate arms for my first person to my third person. Also, You'll have do this for each gun, adjusting the I$$anonymous$$s so that it animates correctly, and then export in to Unity. First for the third person, and then with this workflow for shooting and reloading. Let me know if there's a way to hide the face, and parts of the mesh that get in the way of the first person camera when you use a full bodied mesh that was made for third person view so that I don't have to have a separate mesh for first person view
