Question by Griffo · Oct 19, 2012 at 01:15 PM · sizelightmapatlas

object size in lightmap has reached the max atlas size

Hi, I get this message on a concrete beam In a scene I'm light mapping, the beam has a 1024x1024 texture map that is repeated along its length, is this the reason I get this message ? And is there a solution ?

Thanks.

So im not to familiar with how unity creates the light maps but it seems as though it uses the texture file as a base to generate the lightmap file for an object. So if you are using a tiling texture on an object it would be stacking that light data on top of the previous tile iteration of that object.

on a side note: why are you using such a big texture on a simple concrete beam and then why are you tiling it

Thanks for the input, the texture map is an atlas, shared with other objects, I'm tilling it because it's a very long beam, and if I don't when close you can see the texture is stretched .

my original point still stands regardless if its an atlas. Isnt the lightmap generator still using the UVs of the objects to generate the lightmap. Therefore wouldnt any tiled objects end up having this stacked lightmap which sounds like it could result in your error.

it's creating the light map for the beam in the scene and it looks correct, but I was wondering why it gives this error in the light mapping window. O$$anonymous$$ it may be stacked but they are still 1024x1024 that is the maximum for the light mapping, right?

You have set a large value for the light map scale value for this object. With this value your object would generate a light map bigger than the max allowed size (4096x4096) and a lightmap for one object can be splitted, so it's an impossible operation. Reduce your lightmap scale for this particular object.
