why did 9 single lightmaps take 8 hours to bake?
is there something wrong with my lightmap settings that would cause this to take so long? I was baking 19 cubes created in unity that had been scaled into the shape of a building, with about 20 light sources,
I had a lot of other 3d models in the scene but I "baked selected" on the 19 cubes in unity

Overlapping lights add complexity (Am I mistaken?). In addition, you could $$anonymous$$imize the bake settings to achieve a less accurate but faster result. This is especially handy for testing. Save the nice quality multi-hour bake till your scene is complete. Your computer's CPU (and GPU?) play a major role in the time it takes to bake a map.
