3D Character modelling
Hi! I and some friends are working on a Indie game, and we are quite new to Unity. We know a lot of C# and will be getting this book when it comes out: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Professional-Unity-Multi-Platform-Game-Development/dp/1118063376
We know the basics in Unity, but we dont understand how to model a 3D character.. Do we need a 3rd party program for this? If that is the case, which should we get? If its a great, free program that we get a free license so we can sell the game ligally, that would be the best, but we could pay about 1,000 USD for a license if that is needed.
Thanks.

Yes you need another software. They are called 3D computer graphics software.
Start with Blender. It's free, it's powerful and it's getting better each day.
But, it takes time to get used to it and learn how to model a character for example. Start with tutorials, like here and here.
Also, you can use free models, and then change the models to suit your needs.
