Issue in merging two different kind of objects (image attached)

Hello Everyone,

Thanks for guiding me through and helping me in solving most of the issues related to collision of objects.

I am still stuck with two of my objects, I am unable to combine them because when I apply mesh+rigidbody+convex on any one and try to insert/move it into the second one then it doesn't move into the hole instead it touches on the boundary only, doesn't go into the second one completely.

Please see the attached image, In this Image I have created two objects on a piece of paper and want to show how do my objects look like.

Thanks Everyone for helping me out with all of my issues.

Thanks, Lokesh Sehgal

You need concave shapes, not convex. I'm not sure how unity manages this, you may need to construct your shapes out of smaller convex shapes.

You can't do this with convex colliders, because they are, well, convex! So there's three ways around it: a painful method, and a potentially painful method (yeah :/ ).

One way, as Khada mentioned, is to construct the receptacle object out of several smaller colliders. To do this, you need to add a bunch of empty children to that object and then add colliders to those children. This method is the most hassle-free, but can slow down your game if you have a lot of these objects because now you have (at least) 5 colliders instead of 1.

The other way won't slow down your game, but will involve a bit of programming/math on your part. Bascially, you have to check in OnCollision() whether the parts of the objects that you want to go into each other match up (by comparing the objects' facing directions - dot products!), and then turning off collision between them (Physics.IgnoreCollisions()) and joining the objects.
