Blender Model Not Updating Prefab
I have a game I am working on. I have a blender model in it. I created a GameObject and made the model a child of it. I then created a blank prefab and dragged the gameobject onto the prefab. I then dragged the prefab into the scene.
Now if I double click the model it brings up blender. I make changes to the model and save. I go back to Unity and it doesn't update the prefab. The model is updated, but not the prefab. How do I get the prefab model to update?
I believe that you have to reimport any asset that you make changes to outside of unity before the change will take effect.
Well, the model object in Unity DOES get updated. It is the model inside the Prefab that does not get updated. $$anonymous$$aybe I don't understand what a Prefab is. I thought a Prefab was simply a link to the model.
The reason that doesn't work is because then it replaces all the other stuff I have in the prefab.
$$anonymous$$aybe I am doing this wrong. I am new.
I created my model in Blender. I then save it in the asset folder of Unity project. I then created an empty GameObject. I then named the GameObject "Freighter1". I then dragged my model onto the gameobject in the scene. I then added some lights to the GameObject to help light my model. I get everything set up the way I want it. I then create a Prefab and name it Freighter1. I then drag my GameObject from the scene onto the Prefab just created. At this point I have a prefab with my model and some lights in it.
If I double click the model (not in prefab of course, but the model) I edit it in blender. I save my changes and go back to unity. At this point the model shows the changes I made, but the prefab does not.
If I then drag the model that has changed onto the model in the prefab it just replaces everything in the prefab. Basically it removes all the lights and stuff and all I am left with is the model inside the prefab.

You would in this situation just have to drag the updated GameObject onto the prefab. Updating the prefab in this way should update any GameObjects in the scene that are still blue and linked to it, but it doesn't work the other way around.
