Question by liwuen · Dec 20, 2013 at 04:54 PM · importfbxexportmesh collidersketchup

Imported FBX from Google sketchup to unity has too many meshes, how to export/import properly?

Hello everyone, hope someone can help me with my question:

I have a model of a building in Google sketchup, and when I export it as a Fbx file (2 side export) and import it in Unity, it has a lot of Meshes. I want it just to have one (and only one) so I can call it from a "Mesh collider" component. Is it there any special export thing or any steps I need to do in Google sketchup before exporting?

Sorry to bother you guys with this basic question... I have been trying to solve it but I have not been able to... Thanks for your help!

Do you have groups in sketch up? if so delete them.

If that isn't the case you could just import the file into blender and then select all meshes there and press Cmd+J to join all the meshes into one object and export it again from blender.

I think that Blender doesn't natively support the import of fbx files, but there is a free converter from Autodesk that you can use to convert the fbx file.
