Hard question about 2d sprites in 3d world
hi, im here with a weird question but is valid since im about to pay a lot of money to a 3d modelers and animators, im starting a project (an Mmo) and i want to know if this can be made, if the answer is yes i need to reestructure all my concept before continue, well enough introduction, question:
Lets say i have a 3d world, whatever you want a city (like GTA), a field (like Zelda) o a dungeon (like.... any game there's a lot of game with dungeons XD) and if i dont want to use 3d characters, but still my character, run, walk, die, etc etc, can be made using sprites, i mean not sprites like low resolution, im taliking about sprites made from scratch on high resolution, sooo, if is possible to configure, a sprite to be viewed "fom behind) and then, if i need to fight a monster, the moves shows, like if i was using a 3d model.... i guess many will say is a waste of money trying to use sprites on that way but is an original idea my team have XD.
wel thank you so much for reading and i hope all developers and gods of programming can answer this.

You're going to need a fairly experienced programmer first and foremost for an MMO in Unity... It can be done, but it's definitely not a project to tackle for a beginner or even amateur programmer. If you somehow have the money to pay a good programmer salary to do this, then I guess, yes.
I'm not sure what you mean by "viewed from behind", it's a 2D image, but you can view it from any angle you want, just like if you cut a shape out of paper and turned it.
I'm worried for you though, the fact that you said you are going to pay a lot of money to modelers and animators... Your grammar and speech patterns make me think you are a young teenager, where exactly are you going to get thousands of dollars from to fund that? And if you do somehow have the money to do that, I would advise against it. I would suggest to start a small project by yourself or with a friend, so you can grasp game making a bit more, before trying to jump right into a huge project like that.
Sorry for my bad english, im 32 years old, about the money i want to spend on this project, im going to give you an example: a guy told me 2 $$anonymous$$s of 3d animation (for an intro) cost me 2k dollars, another guy told me making me a city (modern sctructures not fantasy or that kind of madieval or magical stuff) coste me almost 4k dollars, so i can pay that, but of course is expensive, so i need to ask more people and check prices, about the programmers, im going to pay of course to good programmers, but before looking for them, im trying to know if a project of this kind can be done, about the view "from behind" sry for that, again sorry for my bad english, i was talking about looking the back of the character, the thing is, maybe is less expensive to "draw" the characters, and use sprites, than pay 3k for a 3d monster and his animations (attacking, walking, etc, 3k is what cost me with another guy 2 monsters)but i guess is more complicated to do, using a 2d sprite in a complete 3d world, i dont think this is the perfect example but is close to what i want to say:
http://images5.fanpop.com/image/answers/328000/328916_1324214037546_464_300.jpg
lets say i have a sprite with all views and actions, when you move the character change the frame (obvious i know)but still continue to be a sprite, again, i thing is less expensive if i pay for sprites like that than using cell shaded 3d models
When talking about an $$anonymous$$$$anonymous$$O in a 3D environment, sprites will not be cheaper, because a 2D artist will have to spend many WEE$$anonymous$$S of work creating the various viewing angles, and all the interaction animations at those different angles. A 3D model can be made in under a week, and once rigged, allows it to easily be used to create new animation, or to have Unity do some magic to create animation for you. Such as making the character's head turn to look at things, without a pre-packaged animation, or to blend animations together, such as a hand grasp animation being blended into a different arm movement.
2$$anonymous$$ for 2 $$anonymous$$utes of animation is an extremely high rate in 3D, maybe if it was 2D animation, then that would be reasonable.
What is your role in making this game? Being an "idea guy" will only end up with you loosing money. Studios and games are not started by people who only have ideas and just manage employees, there are millions of idea people. And an $$anonymous$$$$anonymous$$O is absolutely not something to start on as a first project.
What is this "$$anonymous$$m" you speak of? Is it some friends of yours you want to make it with? Are they going to be doing some work? If so, then again I would say to start on something much smaller. $$anonymous$$aybe a simple 2D platformer, maybe some puzzle game. Just so you can at least get some perspective as to the time and effort it takes just to make something even as simple as those.
Big time $$anonymous$$$$anonymous$$O's costs millions of dollars to make. They are very complex game types that you never see Indie developers do. Even a small scale one would be in the 100,000's of dollars. Perhaps you don't actually mean an $$anonymous$$$$anonymous$$O? But just a game that has some $$anonymous$$ultiplayer aspect to it? Like a simple game in a city where you fight eachother?
And I'm sorry if this came off rude, but I'm only saying this because I don't like seeing someone loose thousands of dollars. I would appreciate a P$$anonymous$$ to your (probably Indiegogo?) fundraiser so I may get a better idea about what you're trying to make.
is ok, dont worry, i been insulted, offended, in many ways since i start this project, and you have a point, of course all comments are appreciated, and most if came from experienced people (thats what i need)i just realized that i dont see a pm button here hahahaha so you can send me mail to amestrisx@gmail.com
As I said, cel-shaded 3d could look just as cool as your 2d stuff, but less expensive. And I dont get why you need professionals to do that. Students are just as good as professionals even if they do it as hobby - advantage is they dont want so much payment. I think we all here have our dreams, but most of us do the big part of the work on our own.

If you are unexperienced as that I would not suggest making an MMO. But whatever.
I assume you are asking if it is possible to have different views in a 2D space. Of course it is, and I dont think it is that hard. But I would suggest just using cel-shading graphics for that use, because between 2D with different views and a good cel-shading ... theres not much difference.
as i say on the other comment. i guess is less expensive paying for sprites than 3d models, i can spend around 10k dollars but with the time, so i cant spend it all together, i know for a game is just a few of what i need but after looking for good programmers, and the other people, maybe i can spend about 18k dollars.... and of course, if i can spend less that would be better hehe, maybe a mmo is not the best way to start with the games world, but definitly is the best option we (the $$anonymous$$m) have, to fulfill our dreams, also we started a campaign in a plataform similar to kickstarter, saddly nobody has donated yet, since this plataform is less popular compared to kickstarter, but still is a good way to get more funds.... im not gonna share the link, because maybe the rules say i cannot do it, but if anyone who read this have interest on donating even one dollar can send me pm hehehe
Post the link I wanna check the project ^^. Why did you not do it on kickstarter? Well im learning unity for awhile now and will go on on learning until I feel ready for a first small project, even if I always too high ambitions. And you can't make a project like that done if you just hire people to do those stuff. Even people with the skills that are needed to accomplish that (so they dont have to pay them self, they work for their own dream) and have a $$anonymous$$m, can fail.
because i live in mexico T__T and kickstarter is just for US and U$$anonymous$$.... i hate my country hahahaha joke... well half joke hahahaha now that i see the coments of you guyz i feel like a dumb :( but i really think this idea, this project, is good, i was trying to get a demo by june and trying to show to some company.... because my english level is hard to explain good what im trying to do, but this is more like a platform not a "platfom game"... i mean, something different, i been playing for 24 years now and i've never seen something like this, well maybe can be compared to something but is maybe a small comparison... anyway good with shame here is my project:

Well we just try to get you on the ground and not "waste" money on a project that might never reach its final state. We all have our dreams and risk things for that. I for myself train in unity for a few years now, I do it beside my normal working days and quite unregulary (have to work so much). But my dream is making games, and I hope I will find a $$anonymous$$m some time that have the same affection which I can work with and release a few tiny games to do someday a dream project (which I have quite a lot in my $$anonymous$$d).
$$anonymous$$aybe you should be a game designer and show your idea to game companys, then they will make your game and you will be a part of it. But the idea has to be good.
Even if you live in $$anonymous$$X there are ways to do kickstarter... just google. I think you just need a bank account there or so. The campaign is not really good. You first should look on how successful kickstarter ga$$anonymous$$g projects did their campaigns and learn from that. You could also send them mails or so - they already went through all that stuff and maybe can help you or prevent you from doing something wrong.
I have seen that video, but what he is talking about is merely that if you want to get into this industry, you absolutely need to have the drive for it, you need to work for it, but you also need a role other than "I have an idea". Nobody is saying you can't achieve the dream you have here, merely that the way you're going about it, isn't going to work. If you asked the guy in the video, $$anonymous$$atthew Jeffery, if making this type of game while having no experience in the industry, was a good or even feasible idea, he would tell you it's not. He would tell you to still go for it if it's your dream, but that the route you're taking will not work out.
$$anonymous$$ost dreams can be achieved, but you have to take the right path to achieve them.
I wish you all the luck, cheers.
