How many polygons should i max have in a scene?

I know this have been asked before, but the pc development have come quite long since 2010 and 2012. I know it is not mostly the polygon count, but many other factors, but what should I target for a pc game?

Your target should always be "the fewest possible".

I know, but I wanna know how many i could have. Fewer polygons and less objects = Worse Graphic

You can have as many polygons as you want. $$anonymous$$illions and millions if you so desire. But each one gives the CPU/GPU a little bit more work to do, decreasing your framerate.

That's why you use the fewest possible needed to create the graphical fidelity you desire.

But there's so many other factors that deter$$anonymous$$e both the graphical fidelity and the performance of your game that it's completely pointless to specify a hard limit.

Always aim for as few as possible (I'd say below 40k ending up rendered on screen). $$anonymous$$eep in $$anonymous$$d that this number will be multiplied by the shader's complexity, beco$$anonymous$$g even more expensive.
