Question by bubblegumsoldier · Jul 10, 2012 at 05:17 PM · inspectormonodevelopcompiler

Scripting in inspector, possible?

Hi, is there a way to script in inspector?

because it is veery annoying I think always to open a new programm. Or is there maybe a way to make a code for this like (c#):

public class page : MonoBehaviour {
       public ScriptingField script;
    this.compile(script);
}

Are you talking about coding in the inspector and not in $$anonymous$$onoDevelop? If so, then no you have to use an "external" program to code in.

$$anonymous$$onoDevelop is pretty good to do C#, but is a bit leaky with Javascript.

But i approve of the way unity does it, Unity is a game engine, not a coding environment, and I doubt Unity could have made it better within their small inspector.

There seems to be an undocumented way since there's UnityEditor.EditorUtility.CompileCSharp(...). http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/77119-Editor.CompileCSharp-exists-but-not-documented

I guess you could come up with something to your liking but it won't be easy AND I don't see much of a benefit.
