Modelling a hammock
Hi everyone. I'm modeling a hammock for my game but am having trouble texturing it and am looking for some suggestions. I'm trying to make something like this, http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d-model-of-hammock-beach/512303 only game optimized. I use both MAX and Maya so any suggestions would be great.
I tried creating a plane, converting to editable poly and tried modeling it that way but the bottom of the hammock wasn't visible. I then tried poly modeling with a box but the hammock turned out too boxy.
Also how can I create a woven texture with alpha to simulate the weave?
We here love helping out, and i have no prob helpin out with the prob at hand. However, this isnt a Unity question... Im gonna answer, but in the future post non-unity questions in the forum or on a different site(in this case a modeling site).

So you are gonna Unwrap the model and create a UV map for the texture using a sep program(photoshop or other). Then you can use the alpha channel to punch out the holes. The main thing here is the UV map of the texture. If you havent done it b4, go into the help guide(F1 in 3dsMax) and look up Unwrapping Model. or just search online for a vid, i know there are tons of good ones on Youtube and modeling sites.
Thanks! I have used Unwrap before but this particular use was new to me. When you said "punch out" I had an AHH IC moment :) Will find another place for modelling questions. Thanks for the help!
@Hedonsoft no prob, most the time you can just do a search and yield the exact result you need in vid form rather than just discussing on a modeling board. If you do get stuck, it is nice to know a good discussion site for modeling.
