Impossible to share or version control on the free licence?
Just to get this clear because as a new user I can't comment on other people's questions.
Is it impossible to version control the free version of unity or share it between multiple people?
If it is possible, can someone give me some hints as to how to go about it?
This is because I know that to use asset server or external version control you require the pro-verion.

I think using version control on the scripts directory should work ok, for sharing you could use export package option. It's not ideal but workable as long as you communicate well with each other. Occasionally you could consider sending a zip of the whole project structure.

Thank you for pointing to that(I forgot to), unfortunately as I mentioned new users can't comment, well not until I've earned enough rep anyway :S. I can however comment in one of my own questions :)! Btw one of the people answering in that question mentions versioning an xml file, which xml file is this and how does this work?(Ricardo himself doesn't need to answer this)
The commenter who suggest that is serializing the scene objects to an X$$anonymous$$L himself; it's not a Unity option. You'll want to look into object serialization (.Net topic).
