Moving objects with an authorative server?
Hey all, While looking into networking i've come across a roadblock - i don't understand how I should deal with authoritative servers. So my question is: If I wanted to move an object via server how would I do this?
Here's my guess: Player script detects the input, sends an RPC function to the server which states what it wants to do (e.g function MovePlayer). The server then receives the RPC, calls the appropriate function, and using the senders player ID (somehow) either moves the object on the server side or messages the object back telling it to move?
Am I on the right track? How do I achieve such a thing?
So that's my question, how do I move objects via authoritative server?
Thanks!
A message goes to the server, the server verifies it, the server sends a message back to all the clients, and only then does the object move (when the clients recieve the 'move' command from the server).
Ah! So the server is not moving the object its self, just moderating and verifying player actions?
