Install blocked by malware checker

I just downloaded Unity free with Pro trial zip file. I unzipped it and scanned it with McAfee, Ad-ware and Search and Destroy. It passed all these, however, when I run the exe Search and Destroy blocks it saying it started the Smitfraud-c malware. How can I get the install to run, without danger to my PC? If your download file has been corrupted, can you let me know when it is corrected, so I can try again?

Unity is not distributed in zip files.

Unity is distributed as either .dmg for OS X or .exe for Windows from Unity's website: unity3d.com/unity/download.

When you install Unity, you can choose to evaluate Unity Pro for a limited period or just go ahead with the free version. Both have to be registered online.

Unity distributed from other places than Unity's website should not be installed, as it might be third party distributions and therefore not safe, both in terms of malware and piracy.

If you have downloaded Unity from http://unity3d.com , and not from some other dubious site, you can be sure that it is free of any malware and safe to use.

I downloaded it from "http://unity3d.com/unity/download/" twice, with the same results.

Not sure if this is it but this may have to do with the DRM that Unity Technologies is using. See also this forum posting, and Tom's reply right below.

If that's the case, you might simply disable your virus scanner while installing Unity.

EDIT: Okay, haven't thought of that: Of course, assuming that you downloaded Unity from its original location (but I guess that's where you got it from).

I hate to disable it, since I researched the Smitfraud-c malware and how to get rid of it. It's nasty! Can someone with Search and Destroy reproduce I problem, using the latest download. Then I'll know if its the file or my PC.

Thanks

I've been working with regular Unity3D for a while now and plan to use it in a Game Creation SIG I am running. I've held off with the Pro trial because of the reasons above. Now I may be able to give it a shot.

Thanks again, WAP-Tek
