Unity3d RTS style camera movement is jittery

which seems to answer the question quite well. If anybody has any suggestions regardless to minimize jitter/stutter please let me know

I've been tryin' to figure this out for a little while with no luck. At first I thought it was just my project, then I decided to try out an RTS style camera movement from the asset store and the exact same thing is happening. While the camera is scrolling any direction every now and then there's a slight jitter which interrupts smooth movement. I've tried moving my camera with transform.Translate() and settings its position with either Vector3.SmoothDamp or Vector3.Lerp, no luck. I'm calling this in Update() and using Time.deltaTime, I've also tried Time.smoothDeltaTime yet the jitter persists Any ideas?
