How can I bake normal map detail into a terrain light map?
(posted this in the support forum as well, hope that's OK)
Hello!
When normal-mapped objects are lightmapped, the sculptural shadows and highlights are baked into their light maps. So the baked object no longer has an actual dynamic normal map, but instead has a static light map that makes it look like it did in its normal mapped state. I expected to see the same behavior from normal mapped terrain, but can't seem to get it to work.
Here's an illustration of what I'm seeing:
And here's a screen capture video that perhaps explains the problem better (there's voiceover, so you'll need sound on):

It really seems like this should just work... I'm not looking for normal-mapped terrain post-baking, just normal mapped detail baked into the light map, the way it works for an object.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Could you tell us how you managed to do the bake show in the video? I mean shadow and highlights in texture lightmap?
Thanks
