Reset Current Quality Settings very early - to have a fallback from too high settings on Android?
Hi there,
I've got a question about quality settings. It could be that the user sets quality too high for his Android device and he gets serious problems from that (like extreme lag or crash).
I plan a fallback:
On a normal exit I set a flag in PlayerPrefs for normal exit.
Everytime the application has no normal exit (is killed), I want to set Quality to a default on next start, before any problems could occur. (A popup will give him an option then to restore his quality settings, if the crash had nothing to do with it)
Any idea of where I should put that code to check the flag and reset Quality early enough?
Best wishes,

A little to late, but anyways.. What about an empty scene which is loaded at start, where you would check if a flag is available. If not: use default settings (input settings). Then load your menu scene (or whatever you wish). And under runtime check if the framerate is good enough, if not create a popup (or something) that alert the user and asks if the user want to change his quality settings. If so: set the flag to that particular, user specified quality setting. Haven't tried it, it's an idea though. I don't know how to handle a potential crash.
Thanks bompi! It is not too late, game is still in development and problem was set on ice.
The problem is not so much the framerate, but graphic errors with anti aliasing activated on some devices. $$anonymous$$y $$anonymous$$ain menu is an 3D interactive scene, and with graphic errors (mostly big time flickering) due to antialiasing settings it will get hard to get to the options to fix it. $$anonymous$$ost user would not even give tha game the chance if that is still there after an app-kill.
I will give it a try with the empty scene + flag and see if that is comfortable and fast enought for the user. Good idea. =(
