Can't install unity web player on mac.
I've tried to play on gamejolt and it says
A newer version of Unity Web Player is required, but the auto-update download failed. Was trying to download http://webplayer.unity3d.com//Channels/c16aa56d757c/UnityPlayer3.x.x-i386.bundle.zip
the game: http://gamejolt.com/games/shooter/sky-battles-multiplayer/17507/
I tried deleting the plugin from Library/internetplugin/ but the installation still fails.
I have the same problem that I have been unable to resolve for a couple months now. The same error you list in the question is presented in three browsers I have on my system: Safari, Chrome, Firefox. If I find the solution I will come back and post it here.

Nothing worked for me, and I gave up on it for a couple months. I dug into it again tonight and found the answer, for Mac users.
Issuing the following command, in the Terminal, fixed the problem for me.
sudo chmod -R 777 /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/Unity\ Web\ Player.plugin/
The details of what the problem is and why this works can be found in this Unity Forum post.
UPDATE May 23, 2014: Unity QA responded to my bug report and said they made changes to the Mac OS X plug-in to address the problem. They will be included in a future version of the plug-in and the problem should no longer occur after that.

Works fine for me on Chrome and Safari as of about 4 days ago,
OSX 10.9.2
Maybe you should upgrade your OSX.
Or else just wait a few months for the web player to stop working on all platforms.
