volumetric light/sun shaft test
Hello, I'm a student from a design university in Germany and currently I'm learning to work properly with unity and got stuck on advanced lightning effects.
I just watched this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnxKld4ssUk&feature=related Video which really inspired and amazed me. I tried to get a similar effect too but i couldn't handle it by myself.
Especially my current project looks this way, you can check out my web player build over here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17409359/Lights/WebPlayer.html
I would be very pleased if you could help me out to get a proper volumetric light effect or at least give me some hints (:
Wish you a lovely day!
Have you made any progress on researching it? Have there been any changes to your project that have or haven't gotten you closer to the effect you want?
No nothing new so far. As u see in my project, I've got sun shafts activated, but I don't know how to archieve the effects properly. Tried different settings but couldn't get it as seen in the youtube video

I found a mention of this on the forums. The project the guy lists there has an example of a light shaft and there's a basic run-down of how it was recommended to construct it.
Essentially, they're modeling it with a static light source and some translucent gameobjects with special shaders. If that's good enough for your purpose, just go with that.
EDIT: found this, too, but it requires Pro.
thank you for the first link! :) I will check it out! The second one is someway useless cause they use godrays what is not the effect I want to get. (due to stairs/aliasing)
Could you provide a more complete explanation of the effect you want to create, then? The more info, the more likely someone might have an idea :D
got it ! Thank you guys! I've succeeded :) Topic may be closed!
Would you $$anonymous$$d posting what you did as an answer and accepting it, then? It'll help people who have similar questions in the future :)
Sure :) I used the sun shafts Image Effect from Unity Pro Version. First you set up a Light source e.g. directional light in front of a window. Afterwards just drop the" sun shafts" effect on your camera, be sure to deactivate "use depth texture" and drag the light source into your camera as sun shafts target (here called transform) thats it. play with the different settings until the light suits you. as a nice effect you can add the glow image effect in addition to get a brighter light with less gradation.
Good Luck!
