Displaying Objective Points Through GUI.
I have an island, and there are two objective points, (both game objects). i am trying to make a minimap or a GUI texture that will display the objective.
In one case i would want make a gui texture like an arrow to display over the first object indicating where to go. here is an example of what the arrow might look like.
In another case if there were a mini-map to display a yellow dot that you must go towards. here is an example of the kind of minimap i want(without all the fancy gadgets around it)
I havent had much experiance with scripting GUI or Mini-Maps so any ideas on how i can accomplish this will greatly appreciated!
ThAt sounds really interesting. Too bad I can't help you there...
Whatever you know is helpful somehow, thanks for taking a look at it though!
well, i'm good with still GUIs, like buttons and windows... but i guess it could help you. a texture could be a button. but... i can only provide you the basic script reference script because i have 0 idea of $$anonymous$$imaps and guide arrows....

Well i used a new camera for a minimap then added a GUI where my player starts and have the camera smooth follow the player so the Gui and player seem like they remain in the center of the map while the terrian under moves. thanks for the Idea though Jesus_Freak!

as anyone who was reading the comments, i changed the answer from a basic GUI script.
to "U.S.", you could make a simple cube or plane... best a box. and make the arrow texture into a unity material, then play around with the material type.... i'm still looking for how to make it eternally visible (through terrain and objects) without making a GUI... but you could also try the different Layers.
if you work out what material or layer to use, comment what you did.
I'll try it but I think you know what my goal is hear right? GUI label type thing that hovers over the object. Like a 3d text only it's big and noticeable when your far away and gets smaller as you get closer so it's not some huge colossal arrow when close to it.
here's a wacky idea... make a big box, apply the arrow to it as a material (convert it into a material) and apply it to the box.... scale it up to a good proporrtion if that spot is in your field of view, and scale it down according to how close it is to the object.
How would that be visible through objects like terrain though?
trust me, it can be done! there's this thing tat you can choose on the Transform, the 'arrowCube' it says: Layer and has some different choices. i'm not sure which one is to be globally seen, but i'm sure that's how it's done. you could also alter the material to be arrow with a flare effect, i'm sure that can be done. but actually, not flare.... but something like that effect can be achieved in the 'material editor'.
I'll try it. You might want to edit your answer so if the cube thing works I can check it correct.
