Question by otepralloma5 · Sep 01, 2013 at 10:28 AM · scriptingbasics

How to learn scripting without Unity

I can't use Unity because a) I don't have my own computer and b) the Internet Cafes here aren't strong enough. It looks like most of the tutorials are made for people who can experiment with the scripts so they are able to understand them and create their own, but I can't do that. So can anyone explain everything in the script without using Unity while I'm still trying to find a way to use it?

Good selection if you want to write a hardcore PC game :P Not so useful if you want to learn Unity, in my opinion. Well, except Algorithms and AI

The best way it to learn programming first. Start with Javascript and C# if you want to be Unity focused. By a book and work through it, then write your code up from paper to try what you have done. When you are more familiar, you will find it a lot easier to play with Unity scripts.

Can you give me an example of a good book?

Not really, I learned a long time ago and use web resources now. Just walk in to your local 'good' bookstore and grab one from the shelf :)

Well, I have a really big bookstore near my place, but I can't find any books that are even close to program$$anonymous$$g.

Ask them :) They'd be happy to get some in. Or hit Amazon or something

I am personally not big on books and prefer visual stuff. If you are like me then for programming I recommend pluralsight courses. http://www.pluralsight.com/training/Courses They have very nice .net, c# and javascript courses.

Typically books are considered as being visual. An interactive web page is often described as kinesthetic.

a) I don't have my own computer and b) the Internet Cafes here aren't strong enough

Is why I suggested books :)

Decent resource but a little random :/

This one's pretty good for web associated languages.
