Gliding vs bad acceleration dilema

I'm making some sort of flight simulator, and most parts work as they should.

However, I am having a problem with my airplane gliding around in the air because of low drag. If I increase the drag, which does solve this problem, I get new problems. My plane will then accelerate way too fast, and the gravity will have way too little effect on it.
