Movie Texture Playback Controller/ Scrubber

I am playing a QuickTime movie on geometry with no trouble. Start/ stop functionality works fine. Looking for a way to scrub the movie and hoping someone might have advice or know of any pre-made assets out there that could be utilized. I looked at AVPro QuickTime on the asset store but I'm not a fan of the GUI controls, hoping to make it more in-game seamless with in-game/ spatial geometry that can control the movie.

Thanks in advance.

You can't control anything like that with Unitys MovieTextures. They offer you Start, Pause, Stop and if you are lucky its playtime, but thats it.

Also you never play QuickTime movies, unity does not support them. In reality you play ogg theora movies, that are generated from your QT movies, which degrades the quality seriously especially if your movie was h.264 - you might want to use your movie original in its uncompressed form and push it through Miro or another ogg theora converter to get significantly better quality at smaller sizes.

Also, that just as a word of warning: Relying on QT based plugins is a VERY bad idea. Apple regularly breaks the api to it, this already killed unity movie import in the past and your application simply would cease to play movies. if you want another movie format, use a plugin that really embeds its own playback library or at least has one along it thats used just for your app

Hi,

This is a bit of a late reply, but as the author of the AVPro QuickTime plugin, I just wanted to let you know that the GUI controls are just a demo of how to control playback. You can control playback in script, so you can use any mechanism you like really, including in-game/spatial geometry. You can also play the movie back onto both 2D and 3D surfaces (as a texture onto geometry, etc). Of course, scrubbing is fine too.

You can read more and download a demo here:

Cheers,

Andrew
