Changing picture
I've heard you can't bring in videos without unity pro. So i'm trying to do a very quick dodgey animation with several frames. I'm just wondering how would I make it flash through several pictures in a row to make a quick simple animation?

Line your "frames" up in a grid from left to right, top to bottom and set your mainTextureScale to a fraction based on the number of columns in your sprite sheet. Then you can animate over this single image in your update loop without much performance hit at all. Replacing a whole texture in a shader is going to get hairy and slow rather quickly. If you want a managed solution take a look at Sprite Manager 2 (http://www.anbsoft.com/middleware/sm2/)
