Question by AlexWM05 · Dec 16, 2013 at 01:30 AM · texturetimerplanecountdown

Making a countdown out of 3D planes.

Hi there! I am trying to create a countdown out of 3d planes. To be more specific, I want to replace a basic HUD with interchanging planes of numbers from 0-9. That way, instead of having the numbers display on the screen, it is tied in with the environment of the game. I would need two planes that will have it's textures change into different images of numbers depending on the status of the countdown. I hope I am able to make the description clear and understandable.

You can just use 3DText ins$$anonymous$$d, it would be a lot simpler.

What's the smallest fraction (i.e. second? millisecond? etc) and largest number you will need (i.e. up to 60 seconds? $$anonymous$$utes? hours?)?

(The way you want to do it will require either swapping between multiple materials or panning the UVs on 1 material per digit. Take note though that if its a transparent background on the number materials and you are doing it for mobile you may want to consider using meshes ins$$anonymous$$d.)

Seriously, 3D text already does that. Don't reinvent the wheel.

Much apologies people, just got started with the software yesterday and am already under pressure with getting something ready. To answer xander, me any my team are in the midst of a game jam so I can only have time to have just seconds as it's minimal fraction.
