Detecting a slashing motion?

Hello. How can I detect when a user does a slash type motion (just like fruit ninja...the player moves their finger from a space on the left of the object, over the object, to a space on the right of the object) across an object's local horizontal axis? I say local because if I ever wanted to change it to vertical or diagonal I could just rotate the object. Thanks
