Why does Lerpz flap his arms in the 3D Platformer tutorial?

I've encountered something very strange in the Lerpz 3D platformer tutorial when I publish to Android and play it on my Droid 2. Lerpz appears to simply stand around flapping his arms. You can move him around the scene, and sometimes this helps but he won't behave forever. It can prevent him from punching, as well.

Oddly, I don't encounter this problem at all in the web player or in test publish. It only happens on Android. It's almost as though Lerpz thinks he's "falling" constantly and is trying to enter his falling animation... but why would this happen only on the Droid?

In doing some more explorations, porting the code to C# and using Coroutines I've noticed that when I bog the system down with lots of coroutines by accident and put a lot of stress on the system then even on the desktop lerpz flaps his arms. Could it be that Lerpz's falling algorithgm is based on mesh information that may or may not exist (or at least may or may not be immediately available) at the time his update requires it?
