Making a game like gta

Hey guys. I know this is not a simple question but if you could answer it that would be great! I want to how long it might take me if i was making a game like san andreas. Rockstar made it in like 3 years but would it be easier with unity?

Propably it is a little easier in Unity to start with, but anyway it is a lot of work.

Dont know what you want to make exactly and if you have help, but lets us act on the assumption that you have basic to advanced knowledge in scripting, texturing, moddeling, rigging, animation and sound design.

As one men show for a simple prototype where you can run around and drive through a little city map you would propably need a couple of month, depending on time and quality, for a real GTA game with storyline, sound etc, I guess something between 10 and 30 years.

If you want to make game like SA then you need a team if you make big game like SA whit 5-10 people 2-3 years...but if you are new in unity...and you want to make San Andreas alone... 20-40 years, XD!

Really? I think i could do it in 2-3 years. I am real serious about doing it. I just cant see why i wouldint be able to. That is if i work at it real hard everyday. @0-40 years is rediculas i dont think it would be that difficult.

It took R* over five years, and several hundred people working in what some claim to be less than ideal conditions to make a game like GTA. It's unlikely that you will be able to do it solo in less time.

but R* didn't use Unity! it'd probably only take them a month or two if they did!

I think they build their games from the ground up, building their own software.
