How can I make a car?
I have seen the Unity Car Tutorial, and Majatek'sMcLaren_v2 project, but i want to create one by myself(because its for a school project).Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to aquire models (for free), and how to make it all work without breaking my zero dollar bank?
You are really asking a lot!
The video game industry is now bigger than the movie industry financially. An acquaintance recently had a 3D vehicle model made and the total bill was some €20,000 for the company. Just to use 3DS etc. costs thousands and thousands a year for licences, etc.
If you got on a movie forum and said "I want to put together a nice scene like the effects in Hugo Cabret, but I don't have any money" ... it would be pretty difficult you know !!
You can definitely find free models laying around (try the Google search engine "free 3D models of cars") but just be aware it is a big undertaking!!
Go to model sites like TurboSquid and find a free one. (Click here to see a list of free ones)
Then use 3D modelling programs like 3DSMax, Maya etc...Though I would recommend Blender since it's free and works great too!
Tweak your models however you want with the 3D program, then export it to FBX then import it into Untiy3D.
