Adding animations to a a bought FBX
I bought an animated FBX from the asset store.
Now I want to add some basic animations which are missing such as
Sit Climb
I have Maya on my Mac (and I think the fbx was made in 3d max)
When I import it to Maya the import just shows warnings and nothing works. Its Maya 2010. (I have very little knowledge about Maya)
Any help?
I think you probably have the wrong FBX version installed. I think you can update fairly easily from the Autodesk website. However Please don't take this the wrong way...
"Now I want to add some basic animations " - "I have very little knowledge about $$anonymous$$aya"
Doing a couple of animations isn't that simple esp if you have no idea about how maya works. I would honestly suggest a couple of tutorials you should be able to find some on youTube etc. Without a basic understanding of how maya works and how to animate with it the FBX import problem is going to be the least of your worries.
You can try posting in the forums http://forum.unity3d.com/forums/31-Commercial-Work?s=121842cd1cd800b3dee427bca65f808e
It sounds like the mesh you got has 'shape animation' which means there's no rig or skeleton to animate with. Rather the animation is a per frame update of position data per vert.
This cannot be animated without first creating you're own rig.
Why chuck it? You already bought the model, and you have a modelling program. $$anonymous$$ight as well learn with them both and figure out how to use the stuff. Like you said, you're only 15 ... so, it's not like you're running out of time... Unless the world ends this year :D
Well if what you say is correct .. that it's just vertex animation. Then there are no leg 'skeletons' to move. It's all baked off so you can't edit or add to it (without rebuilding the rig).
Try some import/export operations using applications like Frog$$anonymous$$otion or $$anonymous$$ilkShape3D (with .fbx, .x, .ms3d files and so) finally to $$anonymous$$aya. It's difficult to believe there are vertexes-only animation; all characters I know in Unity having common bones.
