Is unity the right program
So I'm new to programming and i've had a game idea for quite some time the game is finished on paper baring a few minor game changes as more play testing is done (it was originally a board game but a video game fits it better.)
But I'm unsure if unity is what I'm looking for to build the game in.
Basically the game is similar to advanced wars or FF Tactics in layout and play. -most of the stuff i've seen made using unity is oriented differently is this the right engine for a turn based game? also whats a good language to use in unity i've been hard stretched to choose one to learn in-depth c# and java are the 2 I've been looking at as well as python visual basic c++.
i have done a very small amount of programming in c++ but i don't want to sit down and learn a language in and out until i know its going to be the language that works the best for me and my project
so iyho whats the best one to learn I'm thinking c# but i would love some input on this.
Unity does whatever you tell it to do. It's a general 3D engine, not a building-block gamemaker.

You definitely can do a turn based game similar to FF Tactics using Unity. You can even match the same camera angles if you set the camera up right. There's nothing stopping you from doing that.
As for scripting in Unity, I'm using Javascript for my project, but C# and Boo are supported as well. I don't think it can support C++, I haven't tried using it in Unity, but knowledge of any computer language is a good thing, I've done some programming in Java and C++ before and can tell you there's enough similarities with them and Javascript to make learning Javascript easier.
