3rd Person Shooter Customization
Hello everybody, new here. Today i start with a project, its a 3rd Person Shooter and im using the Example project found in the website as a tutor... My question is, i want customizable characters, they are all going to be Robot-ANdroid like, and the player can choose between "RocketLauncher Arm" or "Machine Gun Arm" or "Bipedal Legs" or "Wheeled Legs" etc etc... There is an example in the site but it says i need Unity Pro to do so... - Should i model the robots like a whole (Arms, weapons, legs, etc) in 3ds max, and import them as a whole, or should i model the Arms, Legs, Weapons, etc like independent pieces, and then, model a Base Skeleton to put the pieces over it? That can be done with Unity?
I'd say you should model the parts and put them together inside the editor. The rigs could be a little problematic, depending on how organic the connection between the base and torso needs to be.
So, what you propose, is that i create an Skeleton, rig it and animate it, and parent the pieces to the skeleton in Unity editor... right?
I'm not a professional animator/rigger, but that seems the logical way to go about it, yeah. If possible, I'd think it better to make two separate skeletons, one for top and one for bottom as you said you might switch from bipeds to wheels to multi-legged bottoms parts.
