How to Get Velocity Based Movement With Character Controller

Hi, what I am trying to do is I want to move A units towards where my camera is looking

If my camera is at 90° it should just move A units upwards, if my camera is 45° it should move A/2 units upwards A/2 units forward.

I can imagine doing this with Rigidbody but I dont know how to implement it with Character Controller

Should I just switch to Rigidbody if I am dealing with these types of movement a lot or is there easy way to do this in Character Controller.
