Step Offset effects overhead objects
The first person controller wont go under objects that are not at least the step offset higher than the controller's height. Reducing the step offset to zero allows the controller to enter spaces as tall as it is, but obviously this eliminates its ability to walk up steps. Seems to me the step offset should only be called into effect for steps, not overhead objects... Am I missing something?

I have just ran into this same problem. I would really like to know if there is a way to fix this. I realize this question is very old and left unanswered but it would be nice to get a solution
EDIT: Basically as far as I know this is still an existing bug and there is no fix for it. You should either not use character controller or design your levels accordingly.
